A Vhs Christmas Carol Roles

Ebenezer Scrooge (M - Stage Age 30s+): A jaded, miserly character who despises Christmas and anything joyous. An embodiment of greed, cold-heartedness, and selfishness, but with a modern twist influenced by 1980s corporate culture. As the story progresses, Scrooge undergoes a transformation, learning the value of kindness and the holiday spirit. Strong tenor, strong actor, good mover.

Bob Cratchit (M - Stage Age 25-30s): Scrooge’s overworked and underpaid assistant, who despite his hardships, remains kind-hearted and optimistic. Bob is a family man who struggles to provide for his loved ones but still manages to find joy in the small things. Tenor, strong actor, good mover.

Fred Scrooge (M - Stage Age 18-22): Scrooge’s cheerful and optimistic nephew, who embodies the joy and generosity of the Christmas spirit. Despite Scrooge’s coldness, Fred continues to invite him to Christmas celebrations every year, hoping to rekindle a familial bond. Tenor, strong actor, dancer.

Jacob Marley (F - Stage Age 20s+): Scrooge’s former business partner, now deceased and doomed to roam the Earth in chains. Marley serves as a warning to Scrooge, showing what awaits him if he doesn’t change his ways. A blend of spooky and goofy, with a flair for the dramatic. This role takes some inspiration from Annie Lennox. Mezzo-soprano/alto, good actor, strong mover.

Ghost of Christmas Past (F - Stage Age 20s-30s): A playful, nostalgic spirit who guides Scrooge through his past, showing him key moments that shaped his current self. This ghost embodies the 1980s, complete with neon colors, big hair, and a love for all things “retro.” This role takes some information from Olivia Newton-John. Soprano/mezzo-soprano, strong actor, strong dancer.

Ghost of Christmas Present (M - Stage Age 20s): A lively, larger-than-life spirit who revels in the joys of the present. This ghost is all about excess, indulgence, and living in the moment, often accompanied by a soundtrack of festive music and laughter. This character takes some inspiration from Wham!. Strong tenor/baritone, strong actor, strong dancer.

Ghost of Christmas Future (F - Stage Age 20s+): A dark, foreboding figure representing the unknown future. This ghost is mysterious and (nearly) silent, creating a sense of dread and urgency as they show Scrooge the potential outcomes of his life if he doesn’t change. They bring a somewhat scarier presence to the story. This character takes some inspiration from Celine Dion. Strong soprano, good actor, mover.

Belle (F - Stage Age 18-20): Scrooge’s former fiancée, who represents the love and happiness he lost due to his growing obsession with money. Belle is a warm and caring character, who ultimately leaves Scrooge because of his refusal to prioritize their relationship. This character takes some inspiration from Whitney Houston. Strong mezzo-soprano belter, strong actor, mover.

Narrator 1 (M - Stage Age 20’s): The Narrator serves as the guide through the story, providing context, commentary, and occasional humor. In “A VHS Christmas Carol,” the Narrator has a playful, fourth-wall-breaking presence, engaging directly with the audience and adding a modern, meta twist to the classic tale. Fezziwig/Donation Man (M - Stage Age 25+): Fezziwig is Scrooge’s former employer, a jolly and generous businessman who loves to throw extravagant Christmas parties for his employees.
