. . . art that starts conversations

GhostLight ensemble-theatre-project. As theatre-people, we want to impact our community, talk about important issues, and use our art to help people, but we can feel trapped by the limited scripts available to us. It’s hard to find just that right show that will say what we want to say and that is also in line with what we believe.

For the Winter 2017–2018 Village Arts show, we will create a new team, called GhostLight ensemble-theatre-project. This ensemble will go through a specific process to develop their own material based on a theme that is important to them as a group. They will then take their plays to outreach venues (these may include schools, other churches, prisons, retirement homes, homeless shelters, etc.). GhostLight will also perform two “home concerts” for our VA patrons and the Colorado Springs community.

Just what exactly does “GhostLight” mean?

We thought you’d never ask! A “ghost light” is a single light bulb, usually on a stand, placed in the middle of a stage when all the other stage lights are turned off and the theatre is unoccupied. Its practical purpose is safety—for those who work in the theatre to not fall off into the orchestra pit, trip over set pieces, or run into a wall!

What does it mean to us? Well, you can probably guess … we want to be a light in dark places. We want to shed light on important issues that can trip us all up. We want to shine as artists and we want to illuminate truth.
